““Very smart B&B"”

The room was beautiful decorated and the bedding and the beds were divine, absolute luxury. Breakfast was super and the staff could not have been more helpful. We are very happy to recommend this Hotel to anyone.

“we stayed at the Kemp Townhouse and it was lovely - beautifully decorated, a big comfy bed....with the snuggliest duvet and the softest pillows, a delicious breakfast, and a friendly, helpful owner.”

On a rare, short child-free getaway we stayed at the Kemp Townhouse and it was lovely - beautifully decorated, a big comfy bed....with the snuggliest duvet and the softest pillows, a delicious breakfast, and a friendly, helpful owner. The Kemp Townhouse has obviously been well thought-out. and thoroughly deserves to be successful. We would love to return again.

“Stylish and Friendly. Perfect!”

“Pretty much faultless hotel. The service was great, with the manager really going out of their way to ensure we had a great time. ”

Pretty much faultless hotel. The service was great, with the manager really going out of their way to ensure we had a great time. The rooms are to a very high standard and overall offers excellent value for money. It's also on a quiet side street so no noisy neighbours!

Excellent service, beautiful rooms and great breakfast

“Probably the best contemporary, traditional British B&B in the World!”

Probably the best contemporary, traditional British B&B in the World! I booked a cosy double at Kemp Townhouse on a Friday for the following day for a quick 1 night jaunt to Brighton. I was very excited to visit Brigton's latest addition to the design-led boutique B&B market since seeing the review in The Guardian last year. I was worried as this hotel like many in Brighton require a 2 night stay when staying on Saturdays, but upon phoning this was no problem. Very friendly, helpful service on the phone too, although I had been trying to ring the hotel all day but could not get through until late in the day. Arriving in Brighton after battling the traffic and very high winds, we finally found a parking space close to the hotel. Unfortunately, after ringing the bell at Kemp Townhouse, nobody answered at 1 pm which was a bit of an inconvenience. I noticed somebody else had mentioned this in a review below. Maybe best to arrive when staff are in areas of the hotel where they can here the bell, so probably in the morning when people are checking out or later on in the afternoon when rooms should be ready (4pm or later). We popped into Kemptown for some lunch, tea and cake at mdtea (lovely!) and returned after 2 pm when gaining entry was no problem and we were greeted by the friendly staff! Kemp Townhouse provides tickets for £8 that allow you to park for 24 hours in the controlled residential bays in the area around the hotel. Good value, although anyone who knows Brighton will know that parking is difficult to come by. Our cosy double was on the first floor and was £125 for B&B, and what a B&B! From the street, Kemp Townhouse looks fabulous when compared with its neighbours, its obvious the building has been beautifully restored and the tall, traditional white metal lamps are lovely features, but inside is where the fun begins. There are 4 floors. Plush grey carpeting leads you to the ground floor rooms and up the stairs to all rooms. The breakfast room is on the 1st floor. There are 2 window tables, a couple of other tables scattered and a some bench style seating. At each table are the most fabulous, comfortable black (dark grey?!) cashmere chairs! Matt teal walls and dark wood antique furniture and tables finish the contemporary classic look perfectly! Our room, 102, was definitely cosy in size. There was also a smaller room category which would possibly be too small for me, but would provide good value at £110 a night. Mushroom walls were complemented with dark wood desk with a lovely black cashmere stool chair, black lamps and a super-comfy grey divan bed with a grey fabric headboard. The wetroom, beautifully tiled in a white brickwork style was a tad on the small side around the toilet/sink area (the toilet roll holder was starting to fall away, obviously from people knocking it all the time), but had plenty of room to shower. Plenty of information provided on the hotel and Brighton area in the room guide (more tourist information and newspapers available in the breakfast room). Quality tea and coffee provided in room, a cafetiere too! Lovely touch! If in the morning you want absolute silence, then room 102 is not for you. It is next to the breakfast room and the kitchen is just down the landing. Wasn't a problem for me really, it is of course a guest house and some noise is inevitable. Breakfast at the hotel was fantastic and probably of the highest quality in a UK hotel that I've had in a very long time. A great little clip board menu gives you your cooked to order choices. Pancakes (bacon and maple syrup or lemon and sugar), egg and full English breakfast (traditional and vegetarian). The full English was out of this world! Homemade granola (gorgeous!), muesli, pastries, yogurts and juice are also available to help yourself to. Nothing but outstanding! Friendly service as well was the icing on the cake! Room service breakfast is available too, but don't miss out on the chance to experience the breakfast room!! In comparison, I also visited Blanch House for a cocktail on the same road as Kemp Townhouse. Its an older boutique B&B whose lounge doubles as a cocktail bar. Whilst the service and staff were pleasant, drinks were OK-good but it was definitely looking tired decor wise and was not a patch on Kemp Townhouse. I definitely want to try one of the larger rooms, especially the four poster feature room with free standing bath. I hope the wetrooms in the larger rooms allow a bit more room to manouvre! The design and style of Kemp Townhouse is not cold, ultramodern minimlism with a better-than-you staff attitude, so if that is the type of boutique property you require, then it is not for you. What it does provide is a very contemporary, style-led, super comfortable experience with good quality, friendly service. Kemp Townhouse is a credit to the owners hard work and good taste!! It definitely must rank as one of the best boutique/design hotels that the UK has to offer.

“A lot of effort has gone into the décor which is well thought out and yet it still has a cosy feel.”

A cold few days in Brighton We stayed in the smaller double and whilst we would stay again we would choose a larger room (the extensive luggage did not help). I’m never sure why somewhere like this is called a Guest House rather than a small hotel; whatever we call it we were very impressed with everything (small room accepted). A lot of effort has gone into the décor which is well thought out and yet it still has a cosy feel, the greeting was friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast is one of the best I’ve even had, though I stuck to Eggs Royale: a muffin covered in smoked salmon, an egg on top with hollandaise sauce dripped over it all. The walk into Brighton, along the sea front, was no more than a pleasant 10 minutes. We would definitely stay there again.
